Activating Champions for Global Health

Sarah has had the opportunity to collaborate with the King of African Pop, Senegalese musician Youssou Ndour, on several occasions. She first met Youssou in 2004 when he accepted her invitation to meet with her and PATH colleagues to learn about their work on malaria during his world tour. Sarah subsequently raised philanthropic funds to support his vision to host the 2005 multi-artist, Africa Live concert, which was dedicated to malaria advocacy and education. Following the concert, Youssou Ndour continued to lend his powerful and influential voice to malaria advocacy and other global health initiatives in Senegal and around the world. Sarah reconnected with Youssou in 2023 while working on the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting in Dakar. Since then, Sarah has been collaborating with Youssou and his team to advance his vision to inspire and recruit the next generation of African musicians to become global health advocates of the future.

For more than twenty years, Sarah has worked on innovative health projects across sub-Saharan Africa, with notable experience in Senegal and in Uganda. She has had the opportunity to work on infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and the COVID-19 pandemic response.
