Building Coalitions to Dislodge Kids Stuck in Hospitals
Hugh has often leveraged his strong relationships, coalition building, and facilitation skills to reach consensus on the way forward to address problems among parties that frequently do not align. He successfully advanced a new policy to address the challenge of youth with behavioral complexity who become stuck in hospitals due to a lack of adequate and appropriate discharge options available at the state level to meet their needs. By convening the four state agencies that touch child health and welfare, the Governor’s office, and hospitals, Hugh conceptualized and advanced specific policy and funding solutions that passed the state legislature unanimously and will support better care and experience for “stuck kids” in Washington state and their families.
